Your smile is important. It’s amazing how much of a difference to your sense of confidence and self-esteem your smile makes. When you smile, they say that the whole world smiles with you, but dental health problems can cause you to lose confidence in your smile.
If you’ve experienced any form of problems with your teeth in the past, either because of an accident or through gum disease and tooth decay, then this can have a negative effect on the confidence you have in your appearance.
This is where cosmetic dental procedures come in useful.
In this article, we’ll talk about the types of cosmetic dental procedures that you can have in Thousand Oaks
What Are Cosmetic Dental Procedures?
Cosmetic dentistry gives your smile the makeover that you deserve. If you have crooked or broken teeth, or you have discoloration or stains on your teeth, then cosmetic dentistry is here to help.
There are several different types of cosmetic dentistry options that are available to you. The first step is to decide which of them is best suited to you.
Speak with your Thousand Oaks dentist and see which options you are a suitable candidate for.
Let’s explore some of the options that might be open to you.
What Are Dental Veneers?
Dental veneers allow you to reshape and redesign your entire mouth. A dental veneer is a thin porcelain or ceramic shell covers your teeth at the front.
Dental veneers can dramatically improve the way that your teeth look. They can fix problems such as spaces, cracks, stains, and misaligned teeth.
If you have a damaged tooth, as long as the tooth structure is intact, the dental veneer can restore the entire look and feel of the tooth.
How Does the Dental Veneer Procedure Work?
When a patient visits the office for dental veneers, we’ll take an impression from their teeth. This will be used to create the veneers in our own lab. Once created, the veneers will match the color, size, and shape of your teeth. It takes around one week to create the veneers.
So that the veneers can be placed, the dentist will first prepare your tooth by removing some of the enamel. By removing the enamel, it will ensure the veneer is able to lay down flat and line up properly with your gum tissue.
After preparing the tooth, a temporary veneer will be fitted using a glue that can be removed. The temporary veneer will only be held in place. It is important that until the permanent veneers are fitted, that you only brush your teeth lightly and avoid foods that may knock the veneer out of place.
Once your permanent veneers are ready, you’ll be able to come back to see the dentist who will then remove the temporary veneers and fit the permanent veneers.
What Is Cosmetic Dental Bonding?
Cosmetic dental bonding is used to correct faults in your teeth where you may have damaged them or discolored them. The procedure entails having a composite resin applied to the broken or damaged tooth.
The resin is then molded and sculpted. This is done using an adhesive gel. After this is complete, the resin is then hardened using LED lights.
Once the resin has set it can be polished up leaving you with a dazzling smile.
What Is Teeth Whitening?
Teeth whitening is something that has become popular with people of all ages. If you have any form of discoloration or your teeth have lost that pearly white shine, you may want to consider having them whitened.
What Are the Different Types of Teeth Whitening Available?
There are several different types of teeth whitening procedures available. At our Thousand Oaks office, we have an in-office teeth whitening procedure.
If you have mild discoloration and you don’t want to have to go through the procedure in the office, you may be a suitable candidate for at-home teeth whitening. With this type of procedure, you’ll be responsible for administering the solution yourself.
While you can achieve reasonable results using an at-home teeth whitening kit, you are going to get a more consistent appearance with our in-office treatment.
If you would still like to carry out the treatment at home, we can have trays made up by our office for you.
What Are Dental Implants?
If you have broken or missing teeth, then they can cause you to lose confidence in the appearance of your smile. Not only that, but a missing tooth can make it harder for you to chew food and you may end up with an infection.
Dental implants are a permanent solution to these dental problems. They work by having a titanium screw placed into your jawbone. This holds a specially made crown in place above your gums.
What Types of Dental Implants Are There?
There are two different types of dental implants. Firstly, there is the endosteal implant which involves having the titanium screw placed into the jawbone.
Sometimes this is not an option. If there is insufficient bone density in the jaw, then you may not be able to withstand the pressure of having endosteal dental implants fitted. Where you are unable to have this type of implant, it may be possible to have periosteal implants fitted.
This type of implant will be fitted above the jawbone. It is less effective than other dental implants, but it is a better option than wearing dentures or having a dental bridge fitted.
